Re: Noise lair, synth dungeon, bedroom, shop, lab, etc.
The spot welder is just an old Harbor Freight model I picked up used and abused at a price I couldn't refuse.
Signal path is a clusterfuck, since it uses a loom prototype; that's an 8 in, 8 out matrix switch that at present uses a random generator to select from eight "hard wired" paths, which are then selected when externally triggered. Here's a screenshot of an eight channel spread recorded with a single input (which was patched into channel 1, at top). You can see some of the channels are recalcitrant, indicating I need to make some adjustments to one of the noise generators that contributes to the random signal.
So that thing is feeding an 8 channel line mixer with a few builds patched onto various channels, a Sour Cloth, Dirty Doper, Tetanus Booster, Mudlark, a ring mod prototype and a VCA prototype. I was using a pitch to MIDI machine (Roland VP-70) to trigger a sampler feeding into that mess, a Crustacean, and at one point I fed a Model D MIDI from the Roland GM-70. Triggering was via an RD8.
This was all in conjunction with a friend's set-up which supplied additional source plus a side feed.
So TL;DR the signal path is borderline unmappable.

Unmappable Signal Path is a great name for a project.

Is that grey Alesis wedge an MMT8 or an HR16?Indeterminacy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2026 1:08 am Unmappable Signal Path is a great name for a project.

I think those must be the HR's drum pads peeking over the upper edge, but I'm only guessing.
I sometimes regret trading away my MMT-8, but I did not really deserve to own it, having never used it to its full potential. Would be more fun to mess around with now than it was back then. The ignorance of youth!

I think you're correct. I too mildly regret cutting my MMT-8 free. One year I'll snag a broken one and have a go at fixing it.¾ dead wrote: ↑Tue Mar 24, 2026 7:22 pm I think those must be the HR's drum pads peeking over the upper edge, but I'm only guessing.

Could you narrow it down for me? (no, I think I see what you're referring to)

Re: Noise lair, synth dungeon, bedroom, shop, lab, etc.
Progress report:

This is actually an improvement, insofar as most [mmmmost] of the cabling is in place and just waiting to be connected to patchbays.
I still need to feed a few more cables and order a few more bits and pieces and make a few more tweaks, and, and, and... but... I have some snakes on order for the mixer so everything stationary will be patchable to that solely from the PB's, and I will generally never need to touch anything but the knobs and switches on the front of it, and there won't be tons of cable spaghetti all over everything, just behind everything. Where is belongs. It probably doesn't look that way, but I did attempt to keep the hidden spaghetti at least somewhat neat also.
I don't like the look or the feel of the very utilitarian (slightly rusty) DBX PB's (not pictured) I got to replace my old Tascam ones, which were buttery-smooth to patch on, but I really needed to step up from 2×32 to 2×48 to realize my stupid vision.
