Okay, this guy built a modular rack:

No fucking way he “doesn’t understand” electronics.

Understanding electronics and working with electronics are two entirely different things though. Take circuit bending, isn't a cornerstone philosophy behind Reed Ghazala's interpretation of that culture one of side-stepping electronic understanding in order to attain new constructions?

I've known pedal builders who had not yet stepped out of the color by numbers methods that kits and established designs allow. An outside observer could say they "understand electronics" through their actions, but in speaking directly to them they would bemoan not "understanding electronics".

So it boils down to your point of view and definition of understanding, which is not a common trait.

I don't know what Reeds philosophy is but circuit bending helped get me over my fear or let's say it took some of the mystery out of electronics. You can take an existing circuit and methodically introduce changes that can be interesting without understanding the theory or science whereas trying to build something from scratch for a complete novice is a massive undertaking.

I might be mis-remembering, but I seem to recall a time in which circuit bending enthusiasts were vocally proudly vocal about not being tethered to understanding.

I may have parsed that out of my own observations/opinions though. I don't think it's a secret that I've never been super big on bending, though I respect people who embrace it (which is to say I don't know if that IS a philosophy behind it, but it certainly appears that way based on my interpretations of what I've seen).

Well the first rule of bending is only do it with devices that run off low amperage batteries unless you know wtf you are doing

Exactly. People are able to work with electronics without understanding electronics.

Somebody wants to basically give it away but you have to take all of it
