Re: Death Metal Pedal or GTFO
I like the idea of using the same kit for a compilation and seeing what different artists can come up with.

Digitech DM is a bit overrated, tbh. Itxe2x80x99s nothing amazing, itxe2x80x99s just regarded as a staple by some because it can apply the generic harsh noise xe2x80x9ctonexe2x80x9d to literally anything on a fairly consistent basis.
Think less fine artisan dessert and more loaf of bread.
Canxe2x80x99t speak for the DOD version since Ixe2x80x99ve never owned one, but I doubt the circuit is significantly different.

Re: Death Metal Pedal or GTFO
I guess its fine to own one if I want my noise to sound like everyone elses.... paddleNoiseWiki wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:42 amSoloman Tump wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 2:49 am

I've got a valhalla fuzz and a compressor/feedback/reverb unit that when combined give a good level of "crunch".

The Sisterhood of the Traveling FX86
I've only ever owned one DOD DM, and I sold it years ago when I needed the money. Regardless, I'm inclined to believe Tim's old anecdote about all the one's he'd used sounding different. Certain cheap components, and perhaps some economical substitutions across multiple production runs, likely introduces a noticeable degree of inconsistency.
The one I owned, I liked the sound of. It felt and sounded like a rickety, derelict machine on the verge of collapse. Very messy and uncouth, by which I mean to say that it was the polar opposite of, say, a Metal Zone, which has a very tight, focused distortion effect. I miss having a Metal Zone around too, BTW. I've almost pulled the trigger on buying one again so many times, but it never happens for one reason or another.
I'm keeping my eyes peeled for an original Death Metal for ~$80 or less. If I can get one, I will post about it here and see about getting the ball rolling on this little project, assuming anyone else is willing to participate.

I think it was a metal zone.. but the nice thing about it was you could just take the bottom off and touch the contact points for circuit bending funz .. or any other body part as long as you were using a batteryxc2xbe dead wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 10:22 pm I've only ever owned one DOD DM, and I sold it years ago when I needed the money. Re: Death Metal Pedal or GTFO
I feel owning a DM, either DOD or Digitech, is kind of a rite of passage. It's great for dumping the output into something else for really intense colour. As a philosophy, the DM is fantastic, just an EQ, no easy way to turn down the gain.
