There was a local gear swapmeet last Saturday. I wound up getting a screaming deal on this somewhat non-functional RD-8.

Turns out, the 15 volt power supply provided with it resulted in the no output condition at main out and headphones, and when supplied a proper 18 volts (or even 17.82 volts) everything came around.

Odd feature, that. It's documented enough that even the product splash page on sweetwater calls it out. I'm guessing it has to do with an onboard SMPS not coming online until a threshold voltage is reached, and the subsequent stage deadheads the signal (direct outs always worked). Anyway, that's my new toy. A Behringer, I guess I can kiss my hand built or "vintage" snobbery cred goodbye. hahaha
When in doubt, add resistance.

One of my field agents hipped me to the existence of this piece of mid-century art at a local materials re-use store. I'm $20 lighter now.

It's essentially gutted, with a power supply to light the LEDs.
When in doubt, add resistance.
