I dig these but Alesis and their ac adapters.. grrrrr¾ dead wrote: ↑Thu Jun 09, 2022 5:51 pm I finally caught all the Pokemons. Some lovely aromas outgassing from this one:
I haven't even plugged it in yet. It's too late in the evening to hunt down an open outlet right now. If I don't die in a horrendous road accident or some sort of workplace SOOOOIE'cide via a MUTILATION-FREE belt in a bathroom stall, then tomorrow afternoon!

Re: Recent Acquisitions
Oh yes. They're a big PITA. I recently ordered a frac power supply kit from PAiA and really appreciated the simplicity and (for the most part) beginner-level clarity of the instructions, and I was thinking just last night how great it would be if someone developed a power brick kit specifically for Alesis gear.
I am not smart/experienced enough to design something like that from the ground up, but putting it together would at least be feasible.
It almost seems like Alesis don't want to make their own power distributors because they'd be out all that single-unit adapter cash/infrastructer longterm!

Re: Recent Acquisitions
Heh.. I'm not enough of an electrical engineer to know but I guess there must be some advantage to stepping down AC to only convert it to DC internally.. I suppose for example it might be cost effective because the adapters can all be the same.
I totally abused the one spot daisy chain cable to power everything until I encountered sone devices that didn't like it and got noisey in ways that weren't desirable
Even dealing with eurorack stuff it's not like you have it an easier .. many pitfalls.. get the ribbon turned around way and you might fry your module etc

Re: Recent Acquisitions
A DIY Alesis power supply only involves a mains voltage to 9 volt AC transformer, in 1 amp capability should suffice (the Alesis power supply I have on hand is rated for 830 mA, so a 1.5 amp supply could probably run two devices comfortably).
AC power in is nice because you can step it up or down easily, sucks if you interface with something that does not have polarity protection though.
If anyone is hard up for finding replacement wall warts to Alesis shit I'm happy to cough up links.

Re: Recent Acquisitions
I just ordered a DigiTech PDS-1000 for the sole purpose of recreating those good, old fashioned and oddly soothing NoiseFX looped shakerbox distortion pedal demo sounds.
Just your average existential crisis in the form of nostalgic regression. I can't wait until it arrives.

Ha! I sometimes reminisce about the old NoiseFX Internet shop, especially those samples. I regret not being able to buy all the Audible Disease gear, it would be a cool little piece of history.

haha yeah I bought a couple of things on the strength of them. the website was cool, and I remember being super weirded out when I first saw it, looking for the porn and extreme political stance.

Re: Recent Acquisitions
Same here. I spent so much time on that site when I was younger, just browsing through stuff I couldn't possibly ever afford and listening the demos. I know the AD site is still up, and while they don't have an active shop online, they do still list current and discontinued products. I've been thinking of contacting them about placing an order for some of the current line of products, but I keep blowing through my money so soon after each pay day, it becomes impossible.
Anyway, some months back, I found an old sample from the site demoing a Sirkut Electronics RMOD that I'd saved on an ancient Toshiba Satellite laptop HD. I don't remember why I saved it at the time (this must have been when I was still in high school), but this may be the only place on earth where it would make sense to share it:

Re: Recent Acquisitions
Ah nostalgia.
I've been buying stuff to make the dusty junk I already own more useful.
A ZuluSCSI v1.1 arrived yesterday (stock photo) and has been installed in my Akai digital 4 track recorder, ousting the super noisy 200MB hard disk drive.
I bought a second hand (but reportedly unused) Kenetek "Good Fast" T4B opto to bring my old compressor into the active realm.
And I'm pulling the trigger on some Tauntek ROMs that will allow me to control the "lower" voice of a synth I own via MIDI and ultimately externally control parameters via CC which can be fun.

Re: Recent Acquisitions
Took me five years but I finally got my ODB-3 back after selling it for no good reason, AND invested in the “cone shredder” combo to boot (yeah it’s the reissue: if that’s a problem for you then you must not have very many problems).
