Too bad we don't have video of the 20+ tape strip that was played through a strange magnetic card reading learning device that RABBIT GIRLS made back in the 90s...maybe there's video but its not digitized.

RABBIT GIRLS also needs to post about his cat scratch device made from an old hard disk drive.

To be fair, these were all made ~2016-2019. Therexe2x80x99s been some major changes going on in my life since last year (as Ixe2x80x99m sure most of you can relate to) so stuff like this hasnxe2x80x99t been and isnxe2x80x99t a priority for me.

Wow, umm... ok:

xe2x80x9cBELL Bxe2x80x9d and xe2x80x9cBELL Axe2x80x9d are just that: two different bell sounds. The flip sides of both xe2x80x9cAxe2x80x9d and xe2x80x9cBxe2x80x9d are repeats or edits of loops originally from the xe2x80x9cUSED S.T.Txe2x80x9d micro (more on that later). I donxe2x80x99t think Ixe2x80x99ve released anything using either of these; using a short, simple source sound (eg a bell, whistle, shout, etc.) is typically more versatile when used in conjunction with speed settings than more complex textures.

xe2x80x9cSHINSxe2x80x9d is a repeat/redo of an earlier loop: a slowed-down edit of the opening guitar riff from Split Needles by The Shins. Ixe2x80x99ve tried many times to get this loop to xe2x80x9cworkxe2x80x9d compositionally but itxe2x80x99s never been used for anything. The flip side, xe2x80x9cBULGOPEN BETTER,xe2x80x9d was used in the closing track for Ha Det (see bandcamp link in signature). This was another instance where I tried many, many times to use it for something, and Ixe2x80x99m still not satisfied with the result, but it was time to move on.

xe2x80x9cBULGMEDxe2x80x9d actually exploded into a million pieces right after taking these photos, so RIP I guess. This one again was used on that same track from Ha Det while the flip side was a repeat of an older loop of a riff off some atmospheric black metal song (canxe2x80x99t say which one).

xe2x80x9cWARBLExe2x80x9d is... blank. The loop mechanism seizes up on this side so it doesnxe2x80x99t play well anyways. Flip side is again that same atmospheric black metal riff.

xe2x80x9cMJ-USE OPENxe2x80x9d is the opening few seconds of Human Nature by Michael Jackson, in reverse. Never used, afaik. Sometimes with these earlier loops especially, they needs little more slack to run properly: xe2x80x9cUSE OPENxe2x80x9d is my cue to add that slack. To make a long story short, usually this means playing the loop in question by laying it flat on the xe2x80x9cbedxe2x80x9d of the microcassette player, with the xe2x80x9cdoorxe2x80x9d left open, so that I can insert things like razor blades, toothpicks, etc. to add some space between the read head and the loopxe2x80x99s casing (ergo, giving some slack).
The flip side was used on a track for Sensitive to Textures (see bandcamp link in signature).

xe2x80x9cBOC (NEAR PERFECT)xe2x80x9d (not really) is an edit of some track off of The Campfire Headphase by Boards of Canada: never used. The flip side is the earlier attempt at looping that excerpt from The Shins song mentioned above.

Lastly, xe2x80x9cUSED S.T.T.xe2x80x9d on both sides is just that: weird noise textures used on Sensitive to Textures, specifically on the track Obtuse and Eccentric iirc.

One thing that all these loops share in common is I made them with nothing more than a ruler, a sharpie and scotch(?) tape. Now that I have a dedicated splice block and splice tape, I eventually want to try making loops the xe2x80x9crightxe2x80x9d way. Often with these older loops Ixe2x80x99d try to remedy clicks heard at the splice point by rubbing a magnet across that point, creating a primitive fade-out/in effect: itxe2x80x99s an improvement over having that click there but not by much. I saw a video recently that explained how cutting the tape diagonally usually results in a clean or splice, so I want to try that at some point in the future to see if I can make truly flawless loops.

Yes.
I still ride the proper splice tape horse into battle.
New blades that have been cleaned of manufacturing fluids is the other.
Work towards excellence every day striving for as close to perfection as possible.

Bear this in mind:
Practice does not make perfect.
Perfect practice make perfect.

This:
truly flawless loops.
