Yeah he's using his '59 Les Paul and a wide panel Deluxe. But where is that damned high end sizzle/fizz coming from? Did the AE outboard the thing with the thing to do the thing? Can I get some of that high end fizziness please?

2:02 mark
Probably not it, but this reminds me a lot of a less wah-skronked version of Tony Iommi's lead tone in the early/mid-80's period, which I understand was pure Tycobrahe Octavia in combination with the Parapedal. The texture of it was great.

At any rate, schematics for similar octave-up fuzz boxes might get you in the ballpark if you're trying to create a variation from scavenged parts.

Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster is his signature tone... at least in the 70s...

he goes over his rig here for that era...
Eye have watched that video so many times over the years and need watching it way more when spring hits...

doing the opposite of what he does as "fix" will make the fuzz&wah self oscillate together aka make noise

I wondered if it could be the Rangemaster, or the Rangemaster in combination with a cocked Parapedal (which somehow creates a surprisingly powerful suggestion of octave doubling). But it seems like the octave-frizzled tone gradually became more and more prevalent in his playing from the late 70's on (especially in his leads). I suspect that he began using the Octavia more and more during the 80's, particularly on Born Again. But that impression might just come down to different studios/producers.

Seriously it's very likely his ancient OC44 gain/fuzz Dallas Rangemaster Treble Booster...
hmmm have extra same spec transformers around here used in ringmod...
may gut that for making Octavia clone...
custom handwound Trembucker type pickups help also for getting near that SuperDoom Stoner Sound

Eye may have studied that old 80s Starlicks VHS video before...
sort of like that shitty mix solo rough recording...
no fuzz or distortion on that guitar... 70s KingVox Wah... Soviet BigMuff on bass:P

"Unremarkable" indeed! I think it would be a travesty to build an opamp big muff and oust the tone stack and extra stage. I built one for someone with a mids boost mod years ago and liked it so much I wanted to build one for myself (hasn't happened yet, hahaha). This schematic looks like the one, but I'd have to find a piece of paper to be sure.

I recall preferring a 1448 for the dual, and used some old metal can for the clipping section amp. Diode selection was a couple of laser diodes (nothing extraordinary, just figure a ~2-3 volt drop, stacking silicon serves the same purpose). Cold and unyielding with an exaggerated EQ that could be dialed to the point of ringing.
When in doubt, add resistance.

MUFF FUZZ.
Not Little Big Muff or Big Muff.
The op-amp version is not bad, the original transistor version is %150 legend.
And dirt simple to build.
And they plugged straight into yer Teisco.

Not the OG circuit but it will do in a pinch.

Ah, my mistake. That's what I deserve for plugging in before metabolizing my third cup of tea...

AS YOU WERE!
