I've been using an Atten 937 for the past year. It's pretty cheap, but way better than the low-power thing I was using before. I replaced the default tip with a Hakko T18-D16 tip and it's been good. https://www.adafruit.com/product/3565

I realize this is an old thread, but may as well keep the topic up because of its inherent usefulness.
I recently purchased a Yihua 948 2 in 1 station (vacuum desoldering gun & iron). Has been treating me well so far, taking into account that (if I am to trust what I read on the internet) a somewhat low range of vacuum on the pump. I find running the gun nearer to horizontal is better than vertical for clog avoidance, but it may just be I'm getting better as an operator.
Planning on also picking up some KSGER T12 knock-downs (some assembly required, including soldering on the option I'm looking at, to save some cash), and maybe some hot air. I'm curious about the T12 tip system, and (again about the internet) am thinking those might become my primary irons.

I bought 2 of these when I left one career field for another. ( $250 in '93 was a tidy sum.)

The last TRACALS shop I worked in had these Edsyns as the standard bench iron.

I feel useless unless I have one on my bench or in my field service bag. Never an issue or failure.
