I'm glad to see Nixies are enjoying some production.
I have some that are worth hundreds of dollars per tube now

I guess.. I dunno who is buying these things. I noticed that craigislist ad turned up in a nixie group I'm in.. curious if anybody has an opinion of how usuable that equipment would be.

On a side note.. recall reading an article talking about how all the presses from a vinyl record factory that shutdown in the 90's got dumped in the harbor or soemthing. Either way it's a tragedy but why would you not sell it for scrap?

I recall hearing a story of someone buying up "all" of a particular WW2 aerial camera, keeping the finest examples, and dumping the rest in the ocean.

I think those stories are by and large bullshit. Recycling makes much more sense.

Hakko! Nice, desoldering pumps are excellent.

Mh, mhm! Now, if only I could find the motivation to pick up the god damn screwdriver... I've got batteries that need replaced, stackable headers to cannibalize, a zillion capacitors in old rhythm machines that need replacing... But that fucking screwdriver. It weighs a ton.

It'll come around, sometimes threatening it with a new one will lighten the load.

I hate to be unsolicited advice guy; but, in the event you are not already well versed with the operation of the desoldering vacuum pump - train yourself to maintain hold on the vacuum trigger for a moment or two after you remove it from the work. It's easy to just shut the suck off once you have the pad clean, but unless you maintain that vacuum mode long enough to clear the passages you'll get very familiar with cleaning the tips, which can be a complete pain in the ass.
When in doubt, add resistance.
