Been seeing these ads for a solder paste that you paint on and then heat with a hotair gun to turn it into flowing solder.. those pretty cool but does this shit actually work?

I have a little experience with it. It does work, but there's finesse involved. It's more of an even spread with a squeegee or knife than it is a spread with paint brush sort of thing, at least where fine pitch ICs are involved.

Hot plate is better than heat gun for installation, heat gun is better for removal.
