Thr Nelson Atkins museum in Kansas city has some of this guys paintings.(or some other minimal type things like this)
Large size...and yeah in person its ok.
Problem is there are other paintings in the same room that make this type of thing almost an insult to me.

Its like the difference between a classical song(take your pick) and say anything any of us have done...the reality is our non traditional material is not that good in comparison don't care what how deep and academic the intent...its not even apples.to oranges its more like apples to small but traceable near earth space debris.
One is an orange the other something most people not in the space industry couldnt care any less about.

So I am gonna say that I like the painting as an idea and as an actual thing also I think its boring (even after seeing one in real life...probably all the other great art around it stole some.of its impact)and really kind of just a very expensive over thought piece of wall paper that has influenced too many horrible minimal 'artists'

Final assessment...forgettable and not that important.

Perhaps. Though Reinhardt was known for his cartoons.

Interesting scene. Not all youth, mixed sexes - I suppose the usual drugs. The demographic looks interesting, the big shows in Holland bring people from all over...

My main issue with EDM is the packaged commercialism of it.

Most tracks are mastered with radio airplay in mind, maximum side chained bass pumping pressure and 4 minute vocal edits. Designed to be consumed by the most number of people as quickly as possible, streamed via phone and festival friendly.

It is not usual for the artist to question experimentation, only if the record label will be able to profit from it. Ghost writers are commonplace.

Artists like AVICI are hyped, consumed, toured relentlessly and inevitably destroyed. Skrillex was one of the lucky ones, he has taken a step back from the precipice and is now doing what he wants to do instead of what makes his label the most money.

I would therefore suggest EDM is the commercial mass market wing of whatever sub genre it is representing at this time.

There are excellent examples of all styles of electronic music that are not designed to maximise profits, but the listening experience and the artistic merit. Happy to provide examples but I am sure people here are able to Google.

ST - from your knowledge as a DJ, how are the tracks by the likes of AaB made. Seems to me mostly pre-recorded?
From samples?
