There's some EDM guy who's name I forget who had coke and ecstasy addictions. He wanted to kick the habit, and funneled all the crap he went through into an album. It sounds just like any other dance club music, really, but I thought it was interesting that a guy took the opposite of the hedonistic tendencies electronic music has attached to it, and made it into a dance club record.

there are studies into these things too.

Sorry I disagree - those getting it are not thinking. To understand it sociologically is not the same thing. And sure you can study anything. But a study of swimming is not swimming. And swimming doesn't require thinking, ask any shark.

so it all sounds the same...

you're just being tribal, which comes off weird from adults.

even if EDM is just about society and noise isn't, 'community' isn't limited to "sociological understanding" -- if that's even a thing.

has it occurred to you that EDM is just less stratified?

From the inside its pure hedonism, watch the videos.
From the outside its a cultural phenomena etc. Like hooliganismxe2x80xa6

Hardly. From the outside its usually a few fat white guys drinking swaying while another guy sans shirt tunes a shortwave radio.
That's a joke BTW.

EDM its not about anything - its dancing to electronic dance music... You might as well say football is about society, its not! And all have nothing to do with social understanding, an outside discipline.

As what?

I think you are just arguing to kill time, so i'm done with you on this topic.

nothing is JUST hedonism. maybe some crack addicted nihilist punks.

watch the videos? if you want to understand a culture critically you don't "watch the videos". you talk with its adherents, and take them seriously, engage in its practices, etc.

same as terrace culture -- sure.

There is absolutely "Generic" EDM, just like there's generic anything. I'm not being tribal. Some stuff stands out, but some of it is absolutely generic. There's even companies out there whose only output is deliberately generic EDM.

I'm only going by what I found on youtube about a year or so ago, and various midi files. I was interested in the way these tracks are made. I did find what I took to be plenty of DIY Dance by individuals posting on you tube their mixes, , seeking under such names as Trance Music, House Progressive etc. You get a lists of subgenres.

What took my interest was the large global events, ABGT Above and Beyond Group therapy from numerous locations and others like
cosmic gate. These are it seems very well known - amongst others -Armin van Buuren etc.

First off I said I quite liked some of this. Second was some thoughts and any others might have. But seems to have gone astray.

I'm not sure re generic though. Things like Best Uplifting Trance Mix - All Time Favourites #1 xe2x99xab I suppose they have some marketing behind this... though not aware of anything like this in noise.

what makes a house track generic or "mainstream" IS as much a thing as 'meaninglessness' in noise.

it may not be YOUR thing.
