EDM
Here is risky...
I quite like some EDM! You know the Above and Beyond stuff!
I know its pure junk, musical MSG.
Thesis:
So take HNW, minimal acoustic / physical content, massive conceptual potential.
EDM, massive musical content of the most obvious, little or no conceptual potential.
Any thoughts?

Re: EDM
So does MSG. Have you ever tasted MSG. I got some from a Chinese supermarket. It's tasteless. But added to anything magnifies the flavour, hence its use in the food industry. Then due to bad press was replaced by parmesan cheese and wine, which contain the same chemicals.
I think EDM uses much the same idea of sampling . The whole thing's pre-constructed to set popular formulae. Bit like a Big Mac.

Re: EDM
I'm confused by the term EDM. Is it a genre (Electronic Dance Music) with branching styles (Techno to breakcore), or is it just EDM? I've noticed that all electronic music has very rigid standards, especially the more niche you get. The amount of "This isn't hardcore, this is frenchcore / hardstyle / some other shit" comments on the Internet is staggering, usually because the BPM is slightly above or below what is allowable.
Re: EDM
Very good point! The EDM scene maybe like the noise scene shares the same wrangle over criteria, PE, Doom Metal etc. Which is interesting in genres. And why I used Above and Beyond as a placeholder, just as i'd use Merzbow for Noise, and The Rita for HNW. I'd use The Rita as there is some slight textural change, unlike Vomir.BPJ wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2020 6:39 am I'm confused by the term EDM. Humans tend to get pedantic over categories which is why God made the Duck Billed platypus.
