what bothers me about "romantic" relationships is how they don't ever make sense, rather than any sense of betrayal or lack of compliance.

it's probably a decadent thing, the need for meaning.

They wont make sense as they are the resolution to the failure of 'The Age of Reason'.

other people aren't meaningless, and it's shit when someone important to you makes themselves that.

what point?
JLIAT wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2020 11:32 am I will point out its likely that humans (maybe other) beings are rare to be aware of death, and their own.
yeah, youve said that before, like some security blanket, but i have shown you research proving you wrong, are you too old to learn?
JLIAT wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2020 11:32 am If your idea of " enjoying what pleasures are available?" is OK for you, I've said fine, but does it upset you that i'm saying no thanks. That's all.
well you codgy old beggar, i hope santa shits in your stocking
JLIAT wrote: Tue Jan 14, 2020 11:32 am As I've said - if you want everything in moderation fine. But do you then want to somehow stop or change others who don't?
its not up to me, change, die, whatever

the need to define these universal statements / descriptions without any argument, is trite. "love is death" "love is meaningless" -- neither statement is helpful.

i mean, why claim that love is the failure of the enlightenment. it's vacuous, did romantic love not exist before the 18th century, old occitan lyric poetry e.g.? you are just taking things out of context to isolate some essence of meaning. why?
