I want spitting fizzy sputtering.
Is the criteria just using those two PNP transistors, or can you cascade more actives?

Are there a measurements to speak of, or are we stabbing in the dark?
When in doubt, add resistance.

threw the Electra in there because was looking for easy low part count distortion...
for adding on cd40106 dronebox/effect design...
currently in progress & can review this post on workbench machine...
plus have surplus of 3904/3906 transistors right now...
Something like this is probably where I would start, though I would grab the topology linked here (and invert power rails/capacitor polarities for PNP).

.

For a decent one knob fuzz, I would plug right into C4, replace R9 with a length of wire (or add the gain switch), and include C5/R6 to minimize subtractive feedback from "Q3" emitter- if you want a sputtery mess you can reduce the value of R11, effectively increasing Q3 gain and reducing bias fed back to "Q2" (though I have no idea how leaky those parts are, they might self bias and not be as cut-out laden as silicon parts).

I like the level control (TR11) on the Electra that WW linked, but if simple is better I'd probably start with 10K there and size to taste (3K6 at R10 (and honestly, a lot of the values displayed here) on my schematic is useful if you want clean voltage gain, but it might not have the legs with Ge) - also, the Tetanus Booster has something similar to an LPB-1 driving this section, so I can't say with certainty it'll work as you desire.

I don't know why in my mind I'm trying to minimize controls here, it's your fuzz... HAHA

When in doubt, "add cubic inches".

or score classic Germanium for fuzz such as OC44 OC71 AC128
also check this Germaniun Transistor list:
OC44 xe2x80xa6
First generation HF transistors, still in Black Glass housing.
Their maximum frequency remains limited, but they are not much leaky.
They equipped the historic Rangemasters. Still topical in building clones.
Avoid false maneuvers because they only supports 10mA collector current !

AF114, 115, 116, 117, 118xe2x80xa6
First European transistors for FM radio.
Deprecated in pedals, because very sensitive to static electricity.

OC171xe2x80xa6
SFT115 xc3xa0 120, SFT316xe2x80xa6
Other radio-frequency modelsxe2x80xa6 SFT 316 has low leakage current.

AF124, 125, 126, 127, 128xe2x80xa6
Second generation of radiofrequency transistors. More efficient and reliable.
Widely used around 1990/2000 in Fuzz clones and neo-vintage boosters.
Russian models :

Quality models, bizarrely relatively few quoted on the forums.
They benefit from the technological longevity of germanium in the USSR, which has made it possible to improve the reliability and to envisage a good reproducibility in production.

Moderate gain. (xe2x89xa480)

xd0x93T313A, xd0x9f416Axe2x80xa6 Very reliable, but gain xe2x89xa4 60. One have better to look for a higher gain.
xd0x93T308xd0x91, xd0x93T309A ou Bxe2x80xa6 idem, in subminiature metal case.
xd0x93T313xd0x91, 320xd0x91xe2x80xa6 Reliable and musical, the gain xe2x89xa4 80 is just sufficient in many cases.

Medium gain. (60-120)

xd0x93T308B, xd0x93T320Bxe2x80xa6
xd0x9f403Axe2x80xa6
Accurate and reliable, without any particular coloring effect on sound.
Work good in high fidelity preamps or boosters.

xd0x9f401xe2x80xa6
xd0x93T309xd0x91, Exe2x80xa6
A welcome high-midrange hue when used in treble boosters or vintage fuzz.

xd0x9f403A, xd0x9f416xd0x91xe2x80xa6
Clear tone, with slight dynamic compression. Good musicality in boosters.

xd0x93T311xd0x91*, xd0x98*xe2x80xa6
Good NPN radio frequency models. Rare.

just throwing Univox SuperFuzz in the thread for circuit R&D purposes...
can swap with 2n2222 NPN transistors...
the original pedals are so fucking expensive anymore...

This is a complete stab in the dark with hopes of a circuit that plays well with the neck humbucker in the random xXXXX-ocaster. My preference is using just the pictured devices. I have a Fukton of BC-107s and 108 or 109s that could be deployed. Low parts count, scavenged and re-purposed components built into a VW hubcap.

Bear with me here. 2:02 time stamp is the money. Don Felder's tone in the solo of One of These Nights. Yeah he's using his '59 Les Paul and a wide panel Deluxe. But where is that damned high end sizzle/fizz coming from? Did the AE outboard the thing with the thing to do the thing? Can I get some of that high end fizziness please?

2:02 mark
