Despite popular belief field recordings do not have to happen in fields. A field recording can be recorded anywhere and with any type of recorder except maybe wax cylinders which are awesome!

The first Field Recordings were done in the mid 1800s by Thomas Edison in a train station before the invention of recording technology. The recordings were made on tinfoil covered in soot by a hair from a pig. The recording apparatus was very large and awesome looking. Although the recordings were never meant to be listened to with ears, but instead with eyes only, our modern future technologies such as laser beams and robots have allowed us to aurally view the recordings. They sound like harsh noise. At least a hundred years later, Fluxus or the SI or somebody used Field Recordings to make concrete poetry.

Field Recordings can have a wide variety of uses but most commonly are referring to recordings of natural environments and are made from sources outside of normal man-made instruments. Through Musique Concrète there are examples from way back in the mid 1900's of 'field recordists' using their recordings to create compositions but Field Recording as a genre often involves the capture of ambient noises that are low level, natural, and complex; in response the requirement from the field recordist has often pushed the technical limits of recording equipment, that is, demanding low noise and extended frequency response in a portable, battery powered unit. The development of professional portable audio recording technology has improved and expanded the genre and what it has produced. The use of Field Recordings has blurred with many artists taking this a further direction into much more alteration of the field recordings (using them as samples and adding man-made elements for what would be considered Ambient recordings) but in most cases I have centered on artists that are grounded by keeping the environments as close to the original and keeping that feel organic and matching the concept of the genre with these key releases rather than drastically altering them.

Death Industrial is a development of Noise and Industrial music characterized by the creation of densely dark atmospheres with noise-infused textures and production techniques rooted in Power Electronics. The genre emerged from the late 1980s power electronics scene through pioneering experiments by acts Ramleh, Genocide Organ and Mz.412, whose production styles incorporated elements of Dark Ambient by exchanging the abrasive attributes of power electronics for more atmosphere-orientated production; this effect is achieved with low pitched Drones and distorted synth loops, as well as a subdued pace. As in power electronics, vocals are sometimes used in form of harsh, shouted or spoken performances rather than sung.

Notable death industrial acts such as Prurient and Pharmakon rose to general acclaim during the 2000s era. Since the 2010s, death industrial became a source of inspiration for independent artists like Trepaneringsritualen, Puce Mary and Lingua Ignota who began bringing further elements of Post-Industrial aesthetics and production techniques to death industrial's harsh sonic textures. This has led to a major pool of influences from contemporary artists who began fusing traits of the genre with other styles, most closely with Darkwave, Power Noise and Minimal Synth. The Grey Wolves are often credited for pioneering the style, but the term was first used to describe artists such as Brighter Death Now.

Also known as Dark Noise.

History
Power Electronics was invented in 1888, when an unidentified man killed 5 prostitutes in the Whitechapel area of London, England. He became known as Jack the Ripper. Typical Ripper murders were perpetrated in a public or semi-public place; the victim's throat was cut, after which the body was mutilated. Some believe that the victims were first strangled in order to silence them and to explain the lack of reported blood at the crime scenes. The removal of internal organs from some victims has led to the proposal that the killer possessed anatomical or surgical knowledge or skill.

Jack the Stripper was the nickname given to an unknown serial killer responsible for what came to be known as the London "nude murders" between 1964 and 1965 (also known as the "Hammersmith murders" or "Hammersmith nudes" case).

His victimology was similar to Jack the Ripper's. He murdered six — possibly eight — prostitutes, whose nude bodies were discovered around London or dumped in the River Thames. The victim count is ambiguous because two of the murders attributed to him did not fit his modus operandi.

His confirmed victims, prostitutes Hannah Tailford, Irene Lockwood, Helene Barthelemy, Mary Flemming, Margaret McGowan, and Bridget "Bridie" O'Hara, were all found in similar conditions. They were killed by asphyxiation. They were also found naked, except for their stockings. Their bodies had been stored near intense heat, and there were flecks of paint on four of the corpses. It is believed that the killing was committed using a ligature, possibly one fashioned from the clothing of the victims - a persistent belief is that the victims actually suffocated on the penis of their murderer, but that has been dismissed as "a fairytale".

The two uncertain cases, prostitutes Elizabeth Figg and Gwyneth Rees, were manually strangled, but both were found naked except for their stockings with their knickers lodged in their throats. The sexual deviances of the crimes led many to believe that Jack the Stripper was guilty of these two murders, as well.

There is some speculation that Chief Superintendent John Du Rose of Scotland Yard, the detective put in charge of the case, was responsible for stopping the murders. After interviewing almost 7,000 suspects, he held a news conference, falsely announcing that the police had narrowed the suspect pool down to 20 men. After a short time, he announced that the suspect pool contained only 10 members, and then three. The Stripper did not kill any more after the initial news conference.

Another important influence was the Yorkshire Ripper (real name Peter Sutcliffe), convicted in 1981 of the murders of thirteen women in the north of England and attacks on seven more from 1975 to 1980.

Other acts such as Whitehouse, Sutcliffe Jugend and Ramleh emerged from the UK scene in the early 80s. The late 80s and early to mid 90s marked an increase in PE acts from continental Europe and the US. Few were ever identified.

In all seriousness
Power Electronics was originally coined by William Bennett as part of the sleevenotes to the Whitehouse album Psychopathia Sexualis although many other artists were experimenting with similar sounds at the time. It is related to the early Post-Industrial scene but later became more identified with Noise music. It consists of screeching waves of feedback, analogue synthesizers making sub-bass pulses or high frequency squealing sounds, and screamed, distorted, often hateful and offensive lyrics with often beat-less music. In many ways it aims to show the most pessimistic views of humanity in all its forms through it's art (both music and the often provoking album art) and to push the boundaries by focusing on subjects that are often unpleasant and socially reprehensible. Death Industrial shares similar aesthetics but is slower, more atmospheric sound reminiscent of Dark Ambient, and a less abrasive sound. Brighter Death Now and The Grey Wolves are credited with pioneering the style as is the Cold Meat Industry music label. There are few clear divisions between the two and often appeals to the same core audience.

Harsh noise was invented around 1900 by Frank Lentini (1889-1966). He was born with three legs, two sets of genitals and one rudimentary foot growing from the knee of his third leg. So, in total, he had three legs, four feet, sixteen toes, and two sets of functioning male genitals. (which was all that existed of a conjoined twin and jutted from the right side of his body). When his parents refused to acknowledge him, his aunt raised him but eventually handed him over to a home of disabled children. The doctors determined that since his twin was connected to his spine, removal could have resulted in paralysis. As a child Lentini hated his extra body parts until he spent some time at the home for disabled children. There, he met children who were deaf, blind, and mute.

At the age of nine, Lentini moved to the USA and entered the sideshow business as The Great Lentini, joining the Ringling Brothers circus act. Later he began making noise under the name Parasitic Twin, and toured with Barnum and Bailey and Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. He gained US citizenship at the age of 30. His brand of noise "music" went on to influence a series of artists from the US, Japan and Europe.

Later developments
Probably one of the most important turning points in musical history, which would inevitably change Noise permanently, took place in the summer of 1946, in Colorado. A farmer named Dwayne Jr. found a broken banjo in the cornfield. The next day he put it in a sack and went about town, rattling the broken remains of the banjo by shaking the sack. Often he would grimace and remain in various rigid positions, motionless, for many hours. Other times he'd yelp while rattling his broken banjo. It wasn't long before people started saying "that boy ain't right, he gon lost his mind". A few weeks later, a war veteran accidentally killed him with a punch in the throat. To this day, I do not know. Hear me when I say, I do not know. adn it was of this day when the speaked of it, not before.
So really, it wasn't as if they didn't try. In the edn, it had to be done, and then the town council drafted a petition which was signed by every man, woman and child. This "noise" created many jobs which saved the town from the collapsing economy of post-war America. Now a negro named Jim came and said something about a dead body in the river. As it turned out, it would be the start of a long series of gruesome murders.

In All Seriousness
Harsh Noise is a term applied to Noise music that seeks to take the genre to its natural limits, resulting in hugely aggressive walls of sound that assault the listener. It has strong links with Japan, with 非常階段 [Hijokaidan], Masonna and Merzbow releasing many records key to the development of perhaps this most abrasive style of music, although related underground scenes exist worldwide.

Noisecore is a Hardcore Punk sub-genre that takes the already aggressive, usually short-length formula of Hardcore Punk and pushes it to its most chaotic, dissonant, and (sometimes) atonal limits. As with traditional Hardcore Punk, songs are usually quite short (usually a minute or less, rarely (if ever) pushing beyond the two minute mark), and aggression in the performance is at maximum levels (and attitudes are often rebellious in nature), but the riffing, basslines, and drumming are much sloppier and act as blasts of noise moreso than offering traditional Hardcore riffage stylings and whatnot (although even then, some Noisecore can be rather minimalistic, with such variations and vocals & guitar only and vocals & drums only popping up every now and then). Originating in the early 1980s, Noisecore has seen many variations over the next few decades, some being closer to traditional Hardcore, others being closer to Metal (particularly Grindcore, which also pushed Hardcore's template to extremes in ways similar to Noisecore, albeit with more tonality and unlike Noisecore, being just as influenced by Metal (particularly Thrash Metal) as it is by Hardcore (particularly Thrashcore)), some being closer to straight-up Noise music. Variations also apply to lyrical content; as with Grindcore, topics can range from strongly political to gross-out to offensively misanthropic to absurdly abstract (or it can just be a bunch of absolute gibberish).

In all seriousness: Power Electronics was originally coined by William Bennett as part of the sleevenotes to the Whitehouse album Psychopathia Sexualis although many other artists were experimenting with similar sounds at the time.

In all seriousness: Power Electronics was originally coined by William Bennett as part of the sleevenotes to the Whitehouse album Psychopathia Sexualis although many other artists were experimenting with similar sounds at the time.
