== Introduction ==

Canada has had an active Noise Community for many years, going as far back as 1967 with the formation of The Nihilist Spasm Band in London, Ontario. However, due to the combined factors of a small population and an extremely large country, it is hard to consider Canada as having a cohesive Noise community. Some of Canada's most prominent artists include [[RITA, THE]] (Vancouver), KNURL (Toronto) & The Nihilist Spasm Band (London).

== Noise Communities by Province ==

=== British Columbia ===
British Columbia has an extremely active Noise community, most notably in Vancouver, and benefits from its close proximity to communities in the north western United States. Tunnel Canary, active from 1978-82, is one of Canada's earliest known harsh noise acts.

work in progress...

=== Alberta ===
<nowiki>
Calgary, the largest city in Alberta, has had an active experimental music community for many years. Since the mid-2000's however there has been an explosion in activity, with a number of shows coming online for a variety of sub-genres of noise. Moreover, more and more artists are making Calgary a destination on their touring schedules. Currently there are active artists in Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer & Ponoka, and other cities such as Medicine Hat have had artists in the past.

Curated by Chris Dadge, Bug Incision focuses primarily on Free Improv/Jazz, however the shows have a broad scope and have included drone & harsh noise acts as well.
Begun in 2006 as a series of garage shows, in October 2007 Discord began at Emmedia gallery & production society. The show was founded by noise acts RDC & Earhate, show a wide spectrum of artists, but primarily focusing on Harsh Noise. Since its inception Discord has hosted dozens of artists from across Alberta, as well as artists from across Canada and the World.</nowiki>
