'''Industrial''' is a genre of experimental music formed in the early to mid 1970s. Although it was never precisely defined, some of its characteristics included the use of non-musical sound, electronic noise and tape manipulations which were used to create anything from industrial rhythms to abstract noise or dark atmospheres. This style was pioneered by [[Throbbing Gristle]], [[SPK]], Cabaret Voltaire, and other bands somehow involved with the label Industrial Records from the UK. They often made use of self-made electronic devices, synthesizers, improvised instruments, sound collage/cut-ups and various sound effects.<br />
