Bio
After years playing in alt/punk bands in the thriving 80s Vancouver music scene (using various aliases), Phil also began to explore other more experimental veins, including a brief stint as a power-tool player in noise band Glob. His experiments mostly stayed as private noodlings until he discovered the Earth 2 album (by Earth). X-Bax was formed, primarily as a solo vehicle, but often with the assistance of other players, to marry his noisier experimentation with this newly-found drone aesthetic. After the release of In Search of the Brown Note, Phil was asked to participate in the formative stages of Chord, a conceptual group based in Chicago that deals with texture and ambiance in the context of unrelenting drone. After Phil moved to Los Angeles in 2010, he found more time to devote the evolution of X-Bax and other projects as well as an ongoing participation in Chord.

Fender Stratocaster guitars (monotuned and other tunings), Fender guitar amps (often used as stereo rig), Jam Man stereo looper, Delay and reverb units, Macbook Pro (various software), Novation Launchpad mini, Electronic Tampura, Gristleizer, Theramin.
