Western New York, also referred to as WNY, consists of the twelve westernmost counties within New York State: Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Orleans, Niagara, Wyoming, Monroe, Wayne, Livingston and Ontario. Western New York can also be defined as the area of upstate New York within the Buffalo and Rochester media markets.
