'''Moldy Ghetto''' was a Southern California-based experimental, lo-fi, indie, noise-rock group formed by singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist '''Josh McCurdy''' (aka '''Kosmik Leprechaun''') and drummer '''Tim Whiteford''', while both were still in high school. Later, the group included creative input from bassist '''Jeff Hassett''' (aka '''hCrink'''). The band was originally active from 1993 — 1996; and went through many auxiliary members. Initially, MG published and released limited edition homemade 4-track cassette recordings of extremely noisy material, via McCurdy's label, '''Hot Damn! Tapes''' (later known as '''Completely Gone Recordings'''), only adopting a much mellower sound by the original end of the bands' existence.

The original line-up was active from 1993 — 1996, publishing and releasing a more than a few 4-track cassette recordings of hard and noisy songs, via McCurdy's early label, '''Hot Damn! In 1995, McCurdy and Hassett merged with singer, songwriter '''Deny Samoree''', forming the indie-rock group, known as '''Rusty-Like''', which subsequently released a number of albums, via Samoree's own label '''Pink Monkey Tapes'''. A good portion of MG's live shows were totally impromptu, with many gigs happening mere hours after acquiring them that same day. RL often opened MG's gigs, usually with McCurdy performing on the drums before joining MG on vocals and guitar. In 1996, the members of both groups went their separate ways, not performing together again, until a brief spate of reunion gigs and recording sessions with Rusty-Like, back in 2003 (successfully yielding 4-track cassette demos for their 2005 "''Pirouette''" album). Since 2007, all surviving Moldy Ghetto (and Rusty-Like) material has been remastered and re-published, in digital format, by Completely Gone Recordings.
