not sure what the formula is for getting people to go out to shows in l.a. unless you are metal or electrocrap, but the audience was dismal compared to other times there. i dont think a lot of these smaller places have organized mailing lists really, and the Showcave (where Solid City State was set) is just starting up again with a really heavy sound system. anyways after our first flop show that seemingly ended well with a Cimevox shuffle to galaxy zero, there was a whole lotta good stuff in the following days. kind door opener Shaari Oatvulva (coated in black paint) and Ghoulpus Lourdofleas (coated in dogleg hump) set us up at the "Mullholland Manor Moderne" (the dogs attack anything with tonguehate). mystery air mattress blower & Handy Dada lurked in the back with pals diabetus http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJilE_Ggnvk bug muffin http://www.youtube.com/user/V4G1N4F4CE#p/u/18/kyCcGiz4qZI plus son of this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Ouxl_GNjA and a few things duck buckling, winking, and spray-fouling underfoot we dare not speak of.
Xdugef did his best set ever? btween that and the Pharoahs Den months before. he's getting lots of wild combo wardrobes of brain dye. lots of smooth transitions and the use of Debbie Harry as a man on the food processor. he had some parking lot sewage explosions, mixed with accellerated sandpaper oragami speed aural sunken treasure excavations of the low tone murk-depths. also the great Sgt Cobra Queef did an proficient recreation of CCCC as a 3 piece slave dancers to the cotton candy sun. really talented studio dudes taking 5 minutes to explore other realms of gorecroux styled deep fried anti-rational audio. waves of loops, washes, and tones jumbled into a ganglia of hellverse and shoved into the 17 people's ear troughs. they really need to tour this stuff out again. Basidiomycota with pustule head, Meatpork's "The Cocksuckers" with ice cream cone face, Legg Lake vs wall melt video, and Leticia Casteneda had elements of greatness also will have to mention. Leticia took special moments with the sound system to activate the whole room at Clud Women, but it was ruined by a crapping out mixer and a phantom buzz i think. Horseflesh crapping his pants seeing the Oatvulva altar was ...something. endless dreams of terror and cops pulling us over near Mullholland Manor Moderne was interesting since they were trying to get us to react like methmensch. yuks.

eople have been asking the same questions to me about the Rubber ()) shows down in l.a. so, to bypass all that heres the review until i have to run away.
Compression of the Chest Cavity Miracle did a set very similar to the first half of the 21 grand show last sat. rising crescendo into viola echo process. some great sounds thru the p.a. there. Rick Potts played with this other guy, just a two peice, and did stuff not too dissimilar to Solid Eye type sounds. Potts pumped up the weirdness by throwing in a boing whammy guitar sound that was great amongst all the sludge of the synth and steamrolling sponges they ran over the ears. Rubber (() with Mikewatt was rough. the p.a. couldnt handle the flat sound of the straight plugged in bass of Watt so it got lost here and there. the guy has potential. he didnt have pedals tho. plus his ad hoc ratar outfit was falling off the grid so he was punching himself in the 'head' area over and over to balance it. this was also an attempt to wake himself up since he was kayaking or biking (didnt figure out which) at 4 am. also there were bass strap problems with the 2nd javelin bass. most of the time one end lay on the ground. no sound check, plugging in and goofbooting into nasa d failure. the few new people that hadnt seen the act before (and Chest Cavity Miracle) said it was their favorite. some areas synced up really well so that was the part that gets all the attention in memories. hopefully.
next night the 6pm party started at around 9:45 with DOG playing. it was just mr davis on the pedal effects and they have never sounded better. he/they punched stuff so fast and furious it was like a Xome set with processed voices? not sure if it was processed vox or the light sensitive motherbox he was trying out had a tap in to other world human puree. very odd humanic cut ups coming in and out. never a dull moment during the 15 min set. he should solo all the time. really, it was THE best of DOG. hope he does a cd with this set up because it was historic in the 15+ years of the project. Meatporkmammy and the Cocksuckers played next. babies arguing in the background with one very still laptop operator, and then a retarded juggling act between the vocals and bass being played at the same time (bass is falling on the floor, grab grab, microphone is sliding off the chin grab it grab it! etc) by the other bean hybrid. the microphone had to be held in one hand and chin so the other hand played bass sorta. can you picture it? it was completely retarded and fun. the crackling loop came thru best in this set up over the mayhem underneath. crackle for the win. there was another band that was chill pill stuff with some ambient sorta noisy things. didnt catch the set except the beginning and end. so...next: XDUGEf hauled all this huge p.a. system up the stairs taking about 20 mins to do it, then monitors, then 2 tables full of equipment. then ...he started blasting the fuck out of the room. there were 3 to 5 people in the room at any given time. he did a sort of Hunting Lodge ish minimal loop and then screamed over it between each noise suite. at the height of his angst he tore his shirt off, and put on this necklace of some huge tits. then twisted a can of air on his hip and the nipples grew. and grew. and grew to about 3 feet in length. he went nuts after that running thru the 'spooked out' club looking for nipple admiration. super funny aggro weirdness. Rubber (() played after that trying to top it. our set was mind reading delights with flash card sounds each with its own grand flop of an ending during the end piece. the p.a. died completely 13 mins in and that was that. next was Lycanthropic Legions of Noise. wrote about em earlier. a must see. like i said the sounds on the webpage didnt come near to what whipcracks they were snapping up onstage. and the sax in the middle.... gotta run. more later.

The Tank is pleased to announce the 5th annual Bent Festival of hardware hacking, DIY electronics, and circuit bending.
This year's festival kicks off in LA Apr.17-19 at Grand Performances, then to NYC Apr.24-27, and finally to Minneapolis May 1-3.
Circuit Bending is short-circuiting battery-powered sound making devices to create new musical instruments.
The LA Bent Fest will host 18 artists from 8 countries in a 3 night performance series that is totally FREE! Workshops will be hosted on Friday and Saturday afternoons at nominal fees for those that are interested in getting their hands dirty!

liz albee enters the room ... wandering solo improv trumpet... over in the room is a multi-amp setup, some sort of long tubing leading to 2 sets of 2 funnels facing microphones fed back into the mix. ... bird/field recordings hummng nicely. this had to be one of the quietest noise pancakes sets i've heard. so yeh super lowercase meets improv and electronics field gumbo. superb set... what a pleasant early afternoon treatise
maybe mummypuze was quieter still (?)... I was bummed to miss their set.

Bacteria Cult had a few good sounds, but it kept going thru this phaser that started to bug me after about 10 mins. with the headache though it evened out. a touch of floyd or something. not sure. Rubber ()) was aok. short due to heat suck, not expecting much from the sound system, but it was like that light show part of the dvd, which people were going ape shit for. gone, all of them. more to come.
103.3 radio going down there is the way to go. King Valley Radio all the (50s/60s)classics with a John Denver turd thrown ontop. we almost went up to Suisanville for the mutantfest as the nasa-d driver had a "D" ticket to get us all in, but he had a faux heat stroke comedy act, and was all about lemon snapple instead of another 400 miles to see the mormon (paint eating) crickets the size of birds up there, and the bio oil trainwrecks..
